About me
Originally from Birmingham (England), I spent my formative years in Glasgow, London, The Azores Islands and Cornwall. Since 2005, I have been based in Itacaré, Brazil.
I joined the translation profession in 1998, working from Portuguese, French and Spanish into my native language: British English. Since 2005 I have translated exclusively from Brazilian Portuguese.
My qualifications include a Postgraduate Diploma in Portuguese to English Translation (Chartered Institute of Linguists, 2001) and an MA Degree in Portuguese and Spanish Language and Literature with distinction in Spoken Portuguese (University of Glasgow, 2000).
I am a Qualified Member of The Chartered Institute of Linguists and an Associate Member of The Institute of Translation and Interpreting. My work strictly adheres to a Professional Code of Conduct.
In addition to translation, I also run Urso de Óculos, the only bookshop in my adopted hometown. I write regularly about Brazilian literary culture on the blog The Spectacled Bear Reports, within the bookshop website. When not working, one of my favourite activities is open water swimming.
