About me

Born in the UK in 1976, I currently live in Brazil.

I have an academic background and over ten years experience in diverse areas of commercial, legal, and literary translation. I’m a qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (UK).

Born in Cambridge, I grew up in Birmingham. I studied Spanish and Portuguese at Glasgow University, and have also lived in London, The Azores Islands and Cornwall.

Past jobs include language and literature teacher in the UK and Portugal, public service interpreter for the police in Cornwall, bilingual secretary at the Gulbenkian Foundation, and examiner and consultant for translation and Portuguese examinations for several British organisations.

Since completing formal studies, I have continued to read widely in the fields of translation and literary studies, as well as generally in various other academic and non-academic areas.

I moved to my current hometown of Itacaré, Bahia, Brazil in 2005, and in 2007 opened Urso de Óculos – a bookshop with a children’s reading space and regular literary events. In 2011, the first public library in Itacaré opened its doors, and I closed the bookshop to concentrate on translation and writing projects.
